A festival comes to the forest paths
of the royal tombs this autumn 🍂

The 7th edition this year!
The 2026 World Heritage Joseon Royal Tombs Festival
(2026 세계유산 조선왕릉축전)
starts with the opening ceremony on Fri, Oct 16
and runs until Sun, Oct 25
at 12 Joseon royal tombs.

The opening ceremony and the musical
are staged at Yungneung and Geolleung in Hwaseong
(융릉·건릉, also called Yunggeolleung).
This post rounds up the 8 royal tombs
in Gyeonggi-do,
grouped so they’re easy to visit with kids.

We put this together from the festival website,
the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s festival listing
and the royal tombs’ visitor information.

First, the essentials at a glance

🎪 What kind of festival is it?

A past festival — three people in pale jade robes walking a forest path (Photo: Korea Tourism Organization · KOGL Type 3)

A past festival — three people in pale jade robes walking a forest path (Photo: Korea Tourism Organization · KOGL Type 3)

It’s a festival of shows, tours,
hands-on activities and exhibitions
that brings you up close to the Joseon royal tombs,
a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This year’s slogan is ‘See Them Anew, the Joseon Royal Tombs’.

The main festival runs Sat, Oct 17 – Sun, Oct 25.
Monday the 19th is the royal tombs’ closing day,
so only some programs run that day.

The ministry’s festival listing gives
Guri as the host city,
but the map in this post is pinned to
Yungneung and Geolleung in Hwaseong,
where the opening ceremony and the musical take place.

🗺️ The 8 royal tombs in Gyeonggi-do — what’s on where?
