The poet Ku Sang (구상) settled in Waegwan in 1953
and lived here for some 20 years
until he moved to Seoul in 1974.

During hard times, the painter Lee Jung-seob (이중섭)
stayed at Ku Sang’s house in Waegwan,
and Chilgok-gun says he gave the family a painting,
‘The Family of Poet Ku Sang’.

Though born in different years,
the two shared the same birthday, September 16.
A ‘0916’ installation marking the date
is set up at the exhibition (Kyungbuk Maeil).

The foundation describes it as a festival where
installation art, artwork replicas and media content
are placed around Waegwan-eup for visitors to walk through.

🚆 Getting There & Parking

It starts at Waegwan Station Plaza

The festival starts at the Waegwan Station Plaza information booth.

The last space, the Ku Sang Literary Museum,
is at 191 Gusang-gil, Waegwan-eup (Naver Map).

The foundation and county information
say nothing about parking.
Since the starting point is the train station plaza,
it’s an easy festival to reach by train.

👨‍👩‍👧 If You’re Visiting with Kids

The leaflet map shows
Course 1’s exhibition halls clustered near Waegwan Station,
while Course 2 continues to the Ku Sang Literary Museum.

Foil drawing (14:00, 1 hr 30 min)
overlaps with the 15:00 walking docent.
To do both in one day,
go 11:00 docent → 14:00 foil drawing.

On the 17th and 18th, the ‘205 Chilgok Culture Street Festa’
is also held on Road No. 1 in downtown Waegwan
(foundation’s October event schedule).
