Following the story of a Joseon-era military camp,
an autumn festival comes to Dongincheon 🏯
The 37th Hwadojin Festival (화도진축제)
runs October 16 (Fri)–17 (Sat)
at Dongincheon Station North Plaza
and the Hwadojin Park area in Jemulpo-gu, Incheon.
I rechecked the Jemulpo-gu website banner,
a district press release (October 6),
and the Incheon Tour festival page
on October 10 and summarized them here.

🎪 What Kind of Festival Is It?

past festival — a Hwadojin Festival flag fluttering (Photo: Korea Tourism Organization · KOGL Type 3)
Hwadojin was a military camp
set up in the Joseon era
to guard against foreign invasion.
The festival is held every year
to honor and carry on its history and traditions.
Incheon Tour introduces it as
the oldest military camp festival in Incheon.
This year is the 37th edition.
It is hosted by Jemulpo-gu,
organized by Jemulpo-gu and the Jemulpo Cultural Center,
and sponsored by Incheon Metropolitan City.
According to Incheon Tour, admission is free.
📅 What Are the Hours?
Saturday closes one hour earlier.
These are the daily hours listed on Incheon Tour
(data from the Korea Tourism Organization).
| Date | Hours |
|---|---|
| 10/16 (Fri) | 11:00–21:00 |
| 10/17 (Sat) | 11:00–20:00 |
The district banner only shows the dates and venues,
not the hours.
Start times for individual programs,
such as the opening ceremony and the procession,
were not in the official information yet.

(Yonhap News, September 30)
The opening theme performance, Musical Hwadojin,
is described as a stage reenacting
the completion of Hwadojin.
The Dream Dance Troupe (꿈의 무용단) performs before the opening,
and there are also shows by local artists and community culture clubs.

🎨 Uri Art Museum Outdoor Exhibition, Too
On the same two days at Dongincheon Station North Plaza,
Uri Art Museum (우리미술관) holds its outdoor exhibition
Bokseul-bokseul Banjjak (‘Fluffy Sparkle’)
in connection with the Hwadojin Festival.
Artist Lee Hyun-jung presents

🚇 Getting There & Parking

The event address on Incheon Tour is
53 Hwadojin-ro, Jemulpo-gu, Incheon,
the site of Dongincheon Station North Plaza.
As the name says, it is the plaza in front of Dongincheon Station,
so it is close to Dongincheon Station on Subway Line 1.
Hwadojin Park is also a venue,
so you will be moving between the two places.
Please check on-site guidance for the route between them
and where the information booth is.
Parking lots, traffic control during the festival,
and shuttle buses are not yet
in the official information.
👨👩👧 If You’re Visiting with Kids
With kids, start by looking for the experience areas.
Traditional military camp experiences such as
Hwadojin gatekeeper and Joseon military exam,
plus a traditional games area, are listed.
The resident participation stage includes
a children’s dance contest and a history quiz.
We could not find how to sign up
in the official information yet.
There are also crafts, an art market,
a food market and food trucks.
Please check prices on site.
