five families — 19 of us —
spent three days and two nights
on Korea’s east coast.

👪 5 families, 19 people
(9 adults · 10 elementary schoolers)

③ Aug 29: swimming at Galnam Port

🏠 Base: Galnam Port, Samcheok
Our base was the ground floor of a guesthouse
at Galnam Port in Samcheok.
On the last day we drove north
along the east coast
and ended the day in Yangyang.
We’ve written up each stop separately,
so here we just sum up each post briefly
and link to it.

🚝 Aug 28 morning — Daegeumgul Cave, Samcheok
At 10:53 am,
our photos begin
in front of the Daegeumgul marker stone.
Tickets are booked in advance on the official website.
On the 1st of each month at 10:30 am,
the next month’s tickets open,
and individuals can book up to 10 people at a time.
Adults 12,000 won · children 6,000 won
(monorail included);
a visit takes 1 hour 40 minutes.
We have no photos from inside the cave,

plus a summary of the official information.

🏠 Aug 28–30 — Jinsol Minbak, Galnam Port
📍 Jinsol Minbak (guesthouse) — open in Naver Map

7:05 pm on day one — Galnam Port seen from the guesthouse terrace in the rain
We stayed at Jinsol Minbak (진솔민박),
a guesthouse facing Galnam Port —
the five families took over
the whole ground floor.
(5 rooms · living room · shared kitchen)
The forecast said rain all three days
(a 70–80% chance),
but it only rained on the first day.
Per the notice we got when booking,
snorkels, life jackets and flippers rented
for 5,000 won each, and a parasol for 10,000 won (per day).

🏖 Aug 29 — Swimming at Galnam Port
📍 Galnam Port — open in Naver Map

12:41 pm on day two — the beach at Galnam Port
Day two: into the water at Galnam Port!
Our photos from 12:38 to 12:41 pm
show tents and parasols,
and people in life jackets
riding tubes between the coastal rocks.
At 7:07 pm the kids
set up camping chairs at the water’s edge
and sat side by side, looking at the sea.
Galnam Port is at 99-20 Galnam-ri, Wondeok-eup,
and has parking.
(per Gangwon State tourism information)
That day’s story is in the guesthouse post, too.
🏄 Aug 30 afternoon — Laguna Beach, Yangyang
📍 Laguna Beach (Yangyang) — open in Naver Map

Sand sculptures at Laguna Beach — a mermaid, a sailing ship, a lion and a horse; a permanent display in front of Burger World's Laguna Beach branch
On the last day we drove north
along the east coast
to Laguna Beach in Hyeonbuk-myeon, Yangyang.
It’s a surfing beach,
but we didn’t surf;
that day was cloudy, and the waves were fairly big.
The life-size sand sculptures on the beach —
a mermaid, a sailing ship, a lion and a horse —
are a permanent display by Burger World’s Laguna Beach branch.
In the end the kids went back to plain sand,
lying in it and digging, over and over.

🍔 Aug 30 evening — Burger World
📍 Burger World (Laguna Beach) — open in Naver Map

Two burgers on an orange tray — the US flag marks the New York Burger, the Korean flag the Yangyang Burger
After looking at the sand sculptures,
we had dinner at the restaurant
right in front of them.
One entire wall is open,
so from your seat you look straight out
at the sand sculptures and the sea.
The Yangyang Burger, 9,900 won, has onion chutney sauce;
the New York Burger, 10,900 won, has a double patty and cheese.
(per the restaurant’s notice)
Each burger comes with a little Korean or US flag stuck in it,
so you can tell them apart.
