Our day at Jeonju Zoo with the kids 🐯
For Chuseok (the Korean harvest holiday)

and we all went
to Jeonju Zoo.

🐾 Every enclosure full of animals
There were so many species
that nearly every enclosure
was full of animals.
The kids were so excited
they went to see every single animal.
I got swept up in it too,
and we went all the way round —
elephants, snakes, bears, birds and monkeys.
🐻 A brown bear and a blue drum
In the bear enclosure
a blue drum
hung from a chain.
It looked like it was put there
for the bear to roll and play with.

🦦 The longest stop: the meerkats
This is where the kids
stayed glued the longest.
One meerkat stood up on a rock
keeping a lookout,
while another one
scurried back and forth behind it.

🦜 A white parrot with a yellow crest
In the bird enclosure
this one caught our eye.
It sat on a wooden post
holding its food with its foot.

📖 A sign for every species
Every enclosure has a sign,
which made it easy
for the kids to read about the animals.
Here’s what the mouflon sign says,
as an example.

The mouflon sign
Mouflon (European mouflon)
Order Artiodactyla, family Bovidae · eats grass and leaves
It’s said to be the smallest
of the wild sheep.
Males have large horns;
females’ horns are very small.
It lives in the Middle East and West Asia,
and its IUCN Red List status
is Vulnerable (VU).
🌳 Laid out like a park
This is what the paths look like.
A wire-mesh walkway runs overhead,
and below it
a path lined with wooden fences.

Overall, the route is neat and easy,
and the grounds are landscaped like a park.
And there are restrooms all over,
so getting around with kids was easy.
When you have kids in tow,
this makes a bigger difference
than you’d think.
🎡 Dreamland to finish
Inside the zoo
there’s a small amusement park
called Dreamland.
It’s just the right size
for younger elementary kids,
perfect for using up
all the noisy energy
left after the animals.
It reopened after a makeover
in February 2024,
and rides are paid for separately from zoo admission.

📍 Jeonju Zoo — open in Naver Map
Our visit in September 2026 (Chuseok holiday). Admission, hours and the Dreamland details come from Jeonju City's official tourism guide (in Korean); the address, phone number and parking come from Naver Place (checked 2026-10-06). All of these may change. The mouflon text is as written on the sign at the zoo. We couldn't find a sign for the parrot, so we described how it looks instead of naming the species. The character illustrations are GPT-generated images.
Translated from our Korean post with AI assistance. Prices, hours and other numbers were checked against the Korean original, which takes them from Jeonju City's official tourism guide and Naver Place (checked October 6, 2026).
